Alternatives to Alleve?

I had an extensive knee operation about 4 months ago following a fall. My doctor has told me to take 2 Alleve pills twice a day to help with the pain. What are your thoughts on this? Is there a better alternative?

Alleve is an anti-inflammatory medication which damages the stomach lining in many people.

I prefer anti-inflammatories that do not cause stomach ache, gastritis and bleeding. These include

  • MSM or its parent compound
  • DMSO,
  • Boswelia,
  • curcumen,
  • quercetin.

A product you will soon be able to obtain through my website supplements, that is marvelous, is Primivia Relief, which contains a compound of Boswelia, curcumin, and quercetin.  It gets tremendous results.

The other thing I would recommend is to get a therapeutic massage therapist to release the muscles around the knee (thigh and calf) that may be pulling on the knee. Your need for anti-inflammatories at four months post surgery may be helped by releasing the muscles that pull on the knee.

There are also frequency generators that have healing frequencies that may help.

Additionally, you might try getting into a spa with powerful jets that may release the muscles and provide healing water to the knee.

Chronic Migraines

I have been to some of the most celebrated headache institutes in NYC and am still spending a great deal of time in bed. Any suggestions beyond what you have indicated here? FYI, I watch the food triggers and take all of the recommended supplements you mentioned except for the HTP which I will start immediately. Is DMSO an option for me? Thank you. GD

The potential triggers for migraine headaches are many. The key is to find the trigger or triggers for yours and get rid of it. Always easier said than done. DMSO is one of the best and safest anti-inflammatories known to man, so it is worth a try. But if you are on a number of other effective anti-inflammatories, is it unlikely that this one will solve the problem either.

The three areas that tend to be ignored in conventional medicine that contribute to migraines are: structural impingement in the neck that can’t be seen on MRI or X-ray, but may be able to be fixed with a chiropractor; muscle tightness which can be relieved with a therapeutic massage therapist–even if this is not part of the initial problem, it is highly likely to be part of the problem now; energy work, including acupuncture, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Craniosacral, or even frequency generators like the FSM (Frequency Specific Microcurrent) machine.  You will need to find people in your local area that are familiar with these procedures.  Or, if you happen to come to Utah for skiing or any other reason, you’re welcome to visit me at my office.  Best of luck to you.
