Skyrocketing Weight and Fibromyalgia

July 12th, 2010 · 7:22 AM

I have been on Cymbalta for some time and my weight has skyrocketed. My primary care physician has counseled me to get off of the drug. I cold-turkeyed the drug three weeks ago. Since then every nerve in my body has gone crazy - the pain from what we think is a myalgia (Fibromyalgia) is 10 of 10. What can I do? I don’t want to go back on the drug.

As you now know (and as many of us have learned, to our painful regret), you should have weaned yourself off the drug over several weeks.  Relieving the body of the toxicity might have reduced the chance of pain reaction in the nerves.

Here’s what to do now–first step is always cleaning up the diet–no sugar or processed foods, as they are inflammatory, and part of your pain is inflammation. Next, be sure you have good levels of B vitamins and essential fatty acids. This requires taking a B complex on top of a good multivitamin, and both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Next step would be to get a kit from Sanesco or Neuroscience for urine testing of serotonin and dopamine levels in your body. With that information, you can coordinate with a alternative-minded physician about how to use precursors to correct any deficiencies you have.

Within the next few weeks I’ll have a DVD and power point presentation on Fibromyalgia available in our online store, which may also prove helpful to you.

Re the kit from Sanesco or Neuroscience for urine testing of serotonin and dopamine–I couldn’t find it on either site. Please give more specific info so we can find it.

I have had fibro for 20 years and I have found yoga helps me tremendously. Start very slowly just a little each day. I hope this helps.
