A reader asks: I am interested in your supplements. We have tried many different ones and have not noticed any changes. Also on Omega 6, Dr. Blalock says we should not be taking it. What is the truth?
There are a few reasons why other supplements are not making a noticeable difference in your life. The one-a-day vitamins typically are lacking in the B vitamins and calcium and magnesium, and I do not recommend them. If your vitamins are a more potent form with adequate or high levels of B vitamins and minerals, you may not have a great need for vitamins, so you may not notice a difference. This does not mean you do not need them, just that you may not be able to tell a difference. You can compare your vitamin ingredients with Vital Primivia and see if there are differences. Vital Primivia also has the essential fatty acids that are important for all of us.
Dr. Blalock is referring to the ingestion of omega-6 oils in the form of vegetable oils. In his blog on the swine flu vaccine, he specifically mentions corn, safflower, canola, soy, peanut oils. Corn, canola and soy oils have a high likelihood of being genetically modified, so I would not recommend them for that reason alone. The use of these oils on a regular basis may overload your body with omega-6 oils—so if you are using them on a regular basis, you should not be on Vital Primivia, which has an ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 oils for those people who are on a healthy diet. Primivia Multi is the multivitamin without the addition of the EFAs.

My doctor says I can get all the vitamins and minerals I need from my food. What is your opinion on this?
I used to say the same thing to my patients, back in the days before I studied healthy alternatives. It is the party line of allopathic medicine, although that is starting to change. Here's the bottom line, and I'll follow up with some info on what allopaths are now doing:

I have heard recently that fish oil is not as helpful to good health as it has be advertised for many years. What is your opinion of using fish oil as a supplement?
