Coming Clean on Being Green

Household Products Start to Come Clean on Ingredients

The household products industry is trying to improve the ease with which we can know what chemicals are in their products, reports the Wall Street Journal. Unfortunately, some of those ingredients are considered ‘trade secrets’ and are not disclosed. At the present time, federal law does not require this disclosure, although it does require emergency warnings and first aid information.

What Do Labels Really Tell You? As Eco-Seals Proliferate, So Do Doubts

In this companion article, it is pointed out how easy it is to get a ‘green certification’. An online group gave its approval with no questions asked. Some of the major retailers like Home Depot and Office Depot have their own recommendations. This represents a major step in the right direction, but there is currently no clear definition of what this whole field represents. It will be evolving for years to come.

Dr. Gardner’s comments: This field of toxin exposure and avoidance needs our individual careful consideration. We cannot wait for anyone else to protect us. Listen to your body as you use various products—hair shampoo, hair spray, make-up, soap, detergents, toothpaste. Clean up your body as best you can so it is sensitive to these toxic exposures and you can respond appropriately. This is just one important piece in the puzzle of health.
