Should You Get a Flu Vaccine?

Drug May Not Fight Some Flu (so says the Washington Post).

The most prevalent virus this year is not covered in the flu vaccine, Tamiflu, by Roche Holding (the widely administered flu vaccine).

My comments-You can add this to your list of reasons NOT to get the flu vaccine each year–The folks that come up with the flu vaccine can only guess which flu will emerge.  They have to make their decision months in advance of the time the vaccine becomes available in order to create and ship the vaccine.  Even at the time of administering the vaccine, no one knows which flu viruses will be the most prevalent.

Another good reason not to get a shot: recently an 82-year-old lady saw me for arm pain of 2 months duration-since she had received the flu shot.  There was no infection or inflammation at the site of the shot, but one strand of the deltoid muscle had tightened up and would not permit her to lift her arm above her shoulder.  She also had major elbow pain as a residual effect of the shot.  Fortunately, after I worked on her for 10 minute, and released the tight muscle, she experienced a 50% relief of pain, 75% more immediate movement of the shoulder and no more elbow pain.  My advice?  Spend the money on presents, or save it!

I would like to add my comment on getting flu shots: an elderly friend of mine got a flu shot this year, and had an allergic reaction to it — a rash and constant itching. He has been very miserable for several months, and all the meds the doctors have given him for it have not worked. I remember last year early in the year, it was announced on a national news show that as many people who got the shot came down with the flu as among those who did not. Also, we hear that the govt. is using shots to install microchips into people. No, thanks. No shots for me, ever!
