Forbes shared this information: Pharmaceutical Company Pfizer is trying to clear another medication to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. This is the third time this drug has been submitted—the first two times it was rejected because 1) there is an increased risk of endometrial cancer; 2) participants have more likelihood of developing blood clots; and 3) more people in the trial group died compared with the placebo. (Of course, there was “an unusually low mortality rate for the placebo group”). If approved, this drug is expected to reach $1 billion per year in sales.
If I were a postmenopausal woman, would I want to be the first in line to be treated for osteoporosis with this drug? Emphatically no!
Postmenopausal women are at increased risk of bone breakdown if the FSH levels increase past 80. Only
those women with high levels need to be treated, and that treatment is to bring the FSH level down below 80. This is accomplished with bioidentical progesterone (which improves estrogen receptor response) first, and bioidentical estrogen if needed. Supplying all the nutrient minerals to build the strong bone matrix is more important than interfering with the physiology of bone repair. Most of these minerals are found in a good multiple vitamin; strontium and silicon need to be added to the mix to make the mineral building blocks complete.
On September 9, the FDA cleared the drug, “with reservations,” reported the Wall Street Journal. I do not envy the FDA’s responsibility in reviewing the multitudinous data regarding each new drug submission. However, I still maintain there are healthy alternatives to these drugs.

My doctor says I can get all the vitamins and minerals I need from my food. What is your opinion on this?
I used to say the same thing to my patients, back in the days before I studied healthy alternatives. It is the party line of allopathic medicine, although that is starting to change. Here's the bottom line, and I'll follow up with some info on what allopaths are now doing:
