Inconsistency in “Drug” Enforcement

June 19th, 2008 · 7:29 PM

From the Wall Street Journal Article (June 17, 2008) titled “Antipsychotics Will Display Drug Warning”:

The Food and Drug Administration said it will add so-called boxed warnings to the labels of older antipsychotic drugs, reflecting recent findings that the drugs could be dangerous for elderly people with dementia.

Older antipsychotic drugs have recently been found to kill people, especially elderly individuals with dementia. This means that a boxed warning will be included in the labeling and marketing of these drugs. Nearly 30% of residents in nursing homes receive anti-psychotics. The newer anti-psychotics already have a boxed warning since 2005.

From the Wall Street Journal Article (June 17, 2008) titled “Mannatech Settles Several Lawsuits”:

Dietary-supplements maker Mannatech Inc. said it settled several lawsuits with shareholders who accused the company of making false claims and using improper sales tactics to boost sales and the value of the stock.

The 4th leading cause of death in the United States is adverse reactions to prescribed drugs. Anti-psychotics have been added to the list.

Ambrotose is composed of ‘glyconutrients’, natural sugars the body needs to properly communicate from cell to cell within the body. I have found them to be effective in diseases that are difficult to treat by any other means. Interesting that drugs that kill people get a boxed warning, while supplement companies pay attorney’s fees because the government does not verify efficacy.

This reminds me of the amount of research available on folic acid years ago—that 800 micrograms of folic acid would prevent most spina bifida—but this information was suppressed and not permitted to be released to the general public, while thousands of babies continued to be born with a preventable disease—preventable, with folic acid, a vitamin. With beneficial supplements being penalized by the FDA and antipsychotic, potentially fatal drugs being permitted by the FDA, one wonders who is protecting whom, and why.
